How To Easily Get Your American Student Visa
We are here to provide you with some guidelines to help make your student visa application process simple and successful.
Getting a visa to study in the United States takes time but it can be a surprisingly easy process. It is a goal that is well worth the effort. In many countries, the number of student visas issued by the United States has increased significantly over the past year.
Although the visa application process for an international student or exchange visitor can be confusing, every year hundreds of thousands of students manage to meet the visa requirements.
Last year, 471,712 F-1 visas were issued for students and there are currently 1,208,074 million students in the United States who have F and M visas!
Once an English language university or school has accepted you for admission to full-time studies, the institution will send you a document called Form I-20, which constitutes the application for an F-1 visa.
In case you are an Exchange Visitor, the U.S. government organization or agency sponsoring you will send you a DS-2019 form, which corresponds to a J-1 visa.
Steps To Get Your USA Student Visa
1. First, your college or university will send a form to confirm that they have been accepted by an institution authorized by the US Citizenship and Naturalization Service (Citizenship and Naturalization, or USCIS for its acronym in English) to enroll nonimmigrant students (the I-20 form for an F-1 visa or the DS-2019 form for a J-1 visa). You have to read and sign this form carefully.Pay attention to make sure that the name on your passport is the same and is spelled exactly the same as the name on your enrollment application for the institute or university. You should also make sure that the institution has entered your name on the I-20 or DS-2019 form as it appears on your passport.
The names of all applicants must be submitted for a security authorization. Citizens of certain countries and students who will study certain subjects in a university must undergo certain additional investigations that take several weeks to process. Once again, it is essential that you spend a lot of time for the process of applying for your visa.
2. Secondly, you must schedule an appointment for a visa interview and pay some mandatory fees. Student visas can be issued up to 120 days prior to the start date of your program indicated on your I-20 form. The Visas Exchange Visitor can be issued at any time before the date on the form DS-2019. You must submit your visa application as soon as possible.
Each US Embassy has a website where instructions are provided on how to schedule an appointment for the visa interview and other information on the visa application process. You can find the website corresponding to the embassy in your country by going to usembassy.gov .
The website can also inform you the projected waiting time for a visa in your country. International visa applicants for students should receive priority from the embassy or consulate. Therefore, if your academic program starts soon, be sure to explain it when applying for your visa.
You may want to visit or contact the nearest office of the EducationUSA counseling center linked to the United States Department of State in your country. These offices are spread all over the world and you can consult a list at educationusa.info/centers.php . The staff of these centers can explain where to pay the visa fees and how to schedule your interview.
A fee of US $200 is charged to finance the cost of the computer system used to register your stay in the United States (SEVIS). You can pay this fee with a credit card that has international validity. Go to https://www.fmjfee.com/index.html to pay the fee and be sure to print a copy of your receipt. You should bring a copy of your voucher to your visa interview.
You will also have to pay an additional fee of US $160 as a visa application at the United States Embassy or Consulate in your country, or at a bank designated by the Embassy. You can find specific information on where to pay the visa application fee on the website of the United States Embassy in your country.
3. Thirdly, the United States is using a new nonimmigrant visa application form: it is the DS-160 form that must be completed online. This form replaces all other forms. You can find instructions to complete the form online and links to the form by entering https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/
Complete the DS-160 online form in its entirety. Again, remember to use exactly the same order of your names as they appear in your passport, and make sure they are spelled in exactly the same way.
Make sure you have to print the completed form and go with it to the Embassy when you are going for visa interview.
Photography - You must transmit your photo while completing Form DS-160 online. Your photograph must have the format explained in the Photo Requirements: https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/general/photos/digital-image-requirements.html
If your photo transmission fails, you should take the photo with you when you go to your interview.
4. Fourth, prepare for your visa interview. It is extremely essential that you apply for your visa well in advance of the start date of your studies. If possible, request it three months before the date you plan to travel to the United States. This will give you additional time if there are delays at the embassy, or if you want to appeal the decision in case you are denied the visa.
How you dress is important. Consider the interview as a formal event. The right thing is a business attire. First impressions can be crucial, as there will be little time to talk with the official, who often has only a few minutes to conduct the interview and make a decision.
You must be prepared to provide your information quickly and thoroughly. If you cannot answer the questions in English and the visa official does not speak your language, you can request an interpreter. In fact, every year thousands of students come to the United States to learn to speak English.
